braindumpsincolor.wordpress.com is moving! I bought the domain braindumpsincolor.com. You are welcome to keep looking here, but nothing new will be posted. All of your comments and the old posts have already been transferred. On May 15, 2017, I will shut this page down. However, I will still participate in WordPress contests and I am still watching a bunch of the pages at wordpress.com. Just making a business move …
Always Looking Forward
There can be nothing better. Yes, I could write a wonderful little story about a mother who finds her child doing something heartwarming and incredible, but no!
I live to crochet or knit. Okay, and draw and paint. But I really spend a lot of time on crochet and knitting lately.
What can be better than a new skein of yarn or crochet thread (the thin stuff!)? A new set of NEEDLES!!!! Oh my gosh, it’s better than a new car smell. It’s not better than a new computer. Not in any way, shape or form. Or a new Guardians of the Galaxy movie. But it’s nearly as good as … well, not that either. But it’s UP there!
I can get lost in the local crafts store. I head straight to the yarn. I may need new pencils or paint, but I am heading for the yarn. Then I talk myself out of the yarn and go to get for what I was actually there for in the first place. Then I go back to the yarn.
… I’m not leaving without that yarn.
Multicolored, thick, thin, lace-weight, baby soft, etc. You name it, I’ve used it. Plastic bags cut into strips and laced together? Yep, in Girl Scouts. Rubber bands? I tried it. Made me crazy. Denim strips? Been there. But none of that would replace YARN!!!!!!
I did start and Etsy shop that is empty at the moment. Why? You already know. I never finish anything. I am beating that now. I am about to sew buttons on the last toddler top that I made. I am making a baby jacket that will have a hood and an elephant on it. I actually put my daughter’s blanket in her hands. It only took two years for her to get it.
Guilt is powerful. I am on disability, driving Lyft to help with the smaller bills. I worked for many years at pretty decent salary levels, so the mortgage is paid with SSA Disability. It is time for me to create another life for myself. So I crochet and knit and write and draw and try to push myself to paint again. I’ll get that shop up soon. It will be festooned with pictures of yarn!!

ccasionally, something pops up on Facebook that is worth passing on …
- Remember when the President said he wasn’t going to take a salary?
🔴He just accepted his second paycheck.
- Remember when he said Mexico was going to pay for the wall?
🔴He has asked Congress to appropriate the $25 billion of taxpayer money to cover costs.
- Remember when he said he wasn’t going to go on vacation or play golf?
🔴5 of the last 7 weekends he went on vacation and played golf, costing taxpayers $11.1 million.
- Remember when he said he was going to use American steel to build these dangerous pipelines?
🔴Russian steel arrived last week for the Keystone Pipeline XL.
- Remember when he said he wasn’t going to cut social security and Medicare?
🔴The Republican bill does just this.
- Remember when he said that nobody on his campaign had any communications with the Russian government?
- 🔴7 of his people have now admitted they spoke and/or met with Russian officials, after they lied and got caught.
- Remember when he said he was going to divest from his businesses?
🔴Changed his mind.
- Remember when he said he was going to release his tax returns?
🔴Changed his mind. (May I add…unless you want to count the 2 pages of his 2005 tax return)
- Remember when he said he was going to drain the swamp of Washington insiders?
🔴His cabinet is filled with lobbyists, oil and Wall Street executives.
- Remember when he said would defeat ISIS in 30 days?
🔴He doesn’t have any plan.
- Remember when he said that the Obamacare replacement would cover more people at lower cost?
🔴The AHCA that the GOP and 45 are now pushing; they now admit will cover fewer people at a higher cost.

No, The Bible Doesn’t Say The Earth Is Only 6,000 Years Old
want to give a shout out to Nurse Practitioner (NP) Keisha Saunders, who works in her hometown. Click her name to read the article in the Washington Post. It is not really about her, but about the poor people of Northfork, WV, where she grew up, left and came back to help. It is about the Medicare that they may all lose in the overwrought demands to repeal the Affordable Care Act (ACA)/Obamacare. Unfortunately, most of these people do not realize that they would not qualify for Medicare without ACA. The town voted overwhelmingly for Trump, thinking he would bring coal mining back to them, and the boom times would return to their town.
Nothing can be further from the truth.
Read the article for tales that range from the banal to the severe. Many have abandoned the town, as Keisha did before her brother died of kidney cancer at 25. It is possible that he could have been saved, but he did not have health insurance at the time, and the medical care in their area was dismal. The first place was apparently unable to catch it because they were simply inadequate. It is also possible that his age and/or race was held against him at the second hospital, which did not catch the disease in the emergency room because they assumed he was trying to get drugs illicitly.
That, however, is the surface story of this article; how desperate the population is medically. What is more important is how desperate they are mentally. These are people who voted for Trump because they are in dire need. There are no jobs in their area, or even nearby, where there is a coal mine. There is no understanding that the need for coal has dropped considerably in this country and worldwide. People seem to refuse to believe that those jobs are not coming back.
The Department of Energy did a report in 2016 that points out a reason for the decline:
“Coal production has declined because of increasingly challenging market conditions for coal producers,” the report said. “In addition to complying with environmental regulations and adapting to slower growth in electricity demand, coal-fired generators also are competing with renewables and with natural gas-fired electricity generation during a time of historically low natural gas prices.”1
Natural gas and renewables have increased the decline in worldwide coal consumption. Additionally, other countries are mining and producing their own coal and switching to renewables as well, leading to a decline in the price for coal exports. Overall, coal is not a growth industry, and companies have failed over the years, shutting down mines and ending careers. The noose is tightening on the neck of the coal giant.
According to a data dump that I did at https://www.eia.gov/outlooks/steo/query/, has been static for at least 10 years, if not longer. Coal consumption overall is down considerably in the United States, approximately 2065 megawatt hours per day (annually) in the ten year period of 2006 to 2016. Solar, Wind, GeoThermal power, Natural Gas and other alternate energy sources are eroding the use of fossil fuels and will continue to do so. In addition, there is only so much coal in the ground. It will eventually be gone.
Adding delusion to reality, the people that remain in towns like Northfork are generally old, ill or old and ill. Even if the mines came back, they could not work in them. They are not dedicating themselves to learning new skills. They need the provisions of the ACA program – desperately. But no one quoted in the article seems to realize that. One woman blames President Obama for prescription costs that are below what they would have been, and under the current program, will continue to fall. This is not a cheap provision, and it will probably be scuttled in the next version of health care. But she does not know the particulars of the program. She just knows that the cost of drugs has risen, which is not the fault of the Medicare program, but a number of factors, including pharmaceutical rate hikes.2
What will happen to these people if changing provisions of the ACA go against them? What will happen if insurance is more expensive for those who have existing conditions? What about those who are working, but poor, and not eligible for Medicare? What happens to those who refuse to get health care and then find out that they need it (one such person is in the article)? How will they afford it? The ACA program is a complicated one, as the next iteration will be. People do not understand what they have now. Will they understand what they are getting in the future if the safety net is removed?
On November 8, 2016, a group of people who felt they had been abandoned by the nation voted for a firebrand who claimed, in spite of never having lived a life even remotely related to theirs, that he understood their pain and had the cure to all of their problems. They voted for Republicans who hitched a ride on #45’s sordid coattails. The ‘rewards’ of that vote are going to be realized soon. Very soon. It will be interesting to see how it affects Northfork. Be in prayer for them and NP Saunders and for our nation. We will need it.
would like to organize a group of people that is neither far left or right, that represents the average American who has, in two weeks, become very frightened. People who know something about history, or are willing to learn it. People who believe that the Founders were flawed, but they were on to something. People who believe that this country is young enough to grow up and understand that growing up requires stretching and falling and getting back up and sometimes going through pain and a bit of agony. People who WANT to make sure that EVERYONE in our country has the opportunity to live their best life. People who spurn confusion and chaos, but also understand the rules are evil if they serve no purpose.
We need people who are empathetic, sympathetic and well aware that “there but for the grace of God go I“. We need to rise up and recover this country before the Puppet allows Bannon to declare martial war using the Puppet’s pen, as they want to do. The threats to go into Chicago with the Feds when they are already there, is part of a plan to act like a dictator, rather than a president.
I will not waste any time repeating the insanity that has happened this week, though every word in the first clause of this sentence is a separate link to another story of the Puppet flailing out of control. I will eventually address it all.
Find your Senator’s email and telephone numbers online. Find your Congressional Representative’s email and telephone numbers online. Make your voice heard. Be sure that you know what is going on in your local politics as well as the sensationalized tweets and burps of the puppet and his henchmen. WAKE UP!!! Pray up!!! All decent people must fight this fight together. Fast. Pray. Act.

BTW, I am not ready to talk about President-elect Trump. No, not yet… Started the draft and stopped …
wake up with angry elbows every morning. I don’t know why; they certainly don’t take the abuse my feet and legs do, carrying around all this extra weight and being forced to work hard to get rid of it. They don’t struggle to digest the fiber that I am constantly poking in my body to relieve the pressure on my intestines and stuff. But every morning, they are angry. They can actually impede my ability to get up, and it can take five minutes just to convince them to handle the day.
I have to roll to my side and push up with the right elbow and forearm to rise. That is not a function of weight – I need to lose 50 pounds – but because of the lumbar stenosis that was ravaging my back and the surgery in March 2016 to fix it, I am just getting started here in November. Once I sit up, I have to balance with my arms, using those elbows, to keep from collapsing. The pain in my legs can be intense initially. If I stay in one position for a long time, as I do when I sleep, then the legs lock up. So every morning, I have to stretch in bed and off the side of the bed before I can get moving.
I will give the elbows this: they are the first to recover from the night’s sleep. They no longer hurt after ten minutes, and are ready to take on the day.
I’m not sure why I am writing about them. They have been extra abused lately. I needed an extra shot of cortisone in my right wrist and a trigger point in my right shoulder; the pain would shoot through my elbow into my middle finger. Don’t bother to look that up; it makes absolutely no sense. Carpal Tunnel Syndrome is a bear. But it should hit a couple of fingers, not one.
Anyway, this is a tribute to the elbows. They are struggling and making it happen in spite of the demands. They sit in the middle of your trunk and put up with your need for their help to get out of chairs, lean to the side in bed, play “Words with Friends” when you should be sleeping, and take the abuse of this horrible chair that I need to take outside and burn. The arm rests aggravate my elbows after half an hour, but I don’t have a job at the moment, so I cannot get another.
Here’s to you, my elbows. I appreciate you…
